is it ok to inspire the undergrad’s with hangman or some other silly game ?

First of all, I know they are not silly ones and also that they are great ones and it is quite fun to deal with them in the classes. But wait a second is this a scientifically qualified method and look on what other science branches are doing. I think they should inspire the students on how easily we can fix a bug of an open source project with what he just taught. You can say that hangman, 2048 are also Open Source Projects. But they are some rare implementations. you cannot create a new revolutionary hangman game by learning the hangman game but where as if you are given some knowledge about bugzilla and how to find easy bugs you might be able solve a couple of them in your weekend. I’m not saying that prof’s should cut off the inspiring part in classes but I’m just saying that students do inspire if prof’s talk about the bugzilla or about the working of facebook or some thing which looks like scientific.

It is quite pity that in India we are taught about programming after +2. This might be a reason. but Ironically our professor’s don’t even try to inspire us and mooc’s(of top uni’s intro courses) became fancy type(which can only inspire fifth grade kids).
